Wayang Golek

Wayang Golek are rod puppets, unique to the Sunda, the western half of Java. They are inseparable carved and painted wooden head, arms and worked to develop costumes. Performances will be held at a low level, narrow wooden stage, the dalang (puppeteer) is located.
A story is that they were invented in the Islamic rulers in the 16 century and to spread Islam, tells stories of war hero Amir Hamzah, who was an uncle of Mohammed (Menak cycles). Today they can be used to tell stories from the Mahabharata or, less commonly, the Ramayana.
Traditionally wayang Golek performances are accompanied by a small gamelan salendro although in recent years, some of the most famous dalang experimenting with the use of much more documents with more audio bandwidth.
