The temples of Khajuraho were built during the reign of candles. While some showed signs of a Shaivite sensibility, others clearly demonstrated the influence of Vaishnaism, Jainism, and esotericism. These temples have an architectural character distinct from any other group of temples in the country. Rather than being contained in the wall usual, each temple is at a high level and solid masonry terrace. If none of the temples are very large, they are still imposing structures because of its elegant proportions and rich surface sculpture.
